Ellen has over 25 years’ experience in health systems research, international health care comparisons and performance assessment. She is Professor of Health Services and Systems Research in the Health Services Research & Policy Department. Her main research interests are in innovative service models that seek to better meet the needs of people with complex and long-term health problems. She has worked with partners in Europe, China and Kenya on projects seeking to improve the delivery of coordinated and integrated care within and across sectors.
Ellen has long-standing experience of working with policymakers, including as lead of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies’ London offices at LSHTM and LSE (2014-18) to inform health policy and reform and she contributed a key paper on implementing service innovation to the 2018 WHO European Health systems for prosperity and solidarity conference. She was also member of the 2019-21 review of the 2009 China health reform (led by WHO, the World Bank and Peking University). She is joint lead editor of the Journal of Health Services Research & Policy.
