Our approach to Patient & Public Involvement & Engagement (PPIE)

PPIE advisers are valuable members of our team. They help our research to be relevant, insightful, and easy to understand. We consider public advisers to be core members of our project teams, and seek to involve advisers in our work ethically and appropriately. As we cover a broad range of issues it is not appropriate to establish standing arrangements for involvement of patients, service users and members of the public that are specific to a particular patient group or condition. Instead, we work with partners to involve a broad range of advisers in projects appropriately, as they arise.

Our PPIE Advisers support the Unit, including through:

  • providing a fast track review service
  • finding public advisors
  • reviewing study documents, including consent forms and information sheets
  • advising on recruitment strategies
  • disseminating findings
