Professor Shereen Hussein

Shereen Hussein, a Health and Social Care Policy Professor, is a renowned expert in multidisciplinary research, specialising in social care (Long-term care) both domestically and globally. With a background spanning medical demography, statistics, and computer science, she is a leading international authority in ageing and long-term care. Professor Hussein's impact is evident through her various advisory roles for different governments and international organisations. In 2016-2017 she was invited by the Australian government as an international expert to support the development of the National Insurance Scheme, in 2022, appointed by the UK Parliament as a specialist adviser on health and social care workforce and in 2024, appointed by the World Health Organization to the Technical Advisory Group for their Commission on Social Connection.

Shereen is an accomplished author with over 150 peer-reviewed academic articles and reports, and she currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Population Health Metrics. With a keen interest in global ageing and long-term care, particularly in low and middle-income countries, Professor Hussein leads the Care ∞ Track Consortium and serves as Founder and Director of the Middle East and North Africa Research on Ageing Healthy (MENARAH) Network.
