Veena Muraleetharan

LSHTM Research Fellow

Veena is a qualitative researcher with a background in anthropology and sexual and reproductive health.

She has previously worked on a large-scale UK randomised control trial (RCT) of a whole-school intervention to promote adolescent sexual health and relationship well-being in secondary schools and a qualitative study of people holding populist attitudes across the UK about views on public health interventions, including vaccines, health education, and pollution control, with the goal of widening acceptability of public health.

Before working in research, she worked on U.S. health policy and civil as both legislative staff in the U.S. Senate and in advocacy roles.

Her research interests include health equity and justice, especially understanding the experiences of Black, Asian, and minority-ethnic (BAME) communities with health services and public health, and how social, cultural, commercial, and political determinants shape access to care and health policy.

Outside of work, Veena enjoys swimming, hiking, and running, as well as reading for fun and knitting.
